Lunar Year of The SnakeThis series of minted bullion bars from PAMP celebrates the legendary stories behind the twelve animals of the Chinese lunar calendar. The White Snake marks the second release in this series. According to legend, after a thousand years of Taoist training, the white snake Bai Suzhen was granted the power to take human form. She set out to find Xu Xian, a man who had saved her in a past life, to repay his kindness. They soon fell in love and married. However, the monk Fahai uncovered her true identity and convinced Xu Xian to trick her into revealing her form. The shock caused him to die. Determined to save him, Bai Suzhen stole an immortal herb from Heaven and revived him. Fahai later imprisoned her in a fortress pagoda, where she gave birth to their son. Once grown, their son freed Bai Suzhen, and the family was joyfully reunited. The Lunar New Year begins with the first sighting of the new moon, symbolizing auspicious beginnings. In this design, the twelve animals of the lunar cycle are illustrated as stars encircling the moon. Each animal rules a specific two-hour window during the day, with the snake—sixth in the clockwise order—reaching its peak influence between 9 and 11 a.m. This moment is marked with Chinese characters translating to 10 a.m., signifying the snake’s zenith.
