The Florida Ten Goldback illustrates “Innovatio” (Innovation) through the depiction of a spirited flapper from the 1920s, standing confidently aboard the Florida East Coast Railway (FEC)—a landmark in Florida’s economic and infrastructural development.
Established by Henry Flagler, the FEC connected Jacksonville to St. Augustine, eventually extending all the way to Key West with the completion of the Overseas Railroad in 1912. This engineering marvel revolutionized transportation and growth across the state.
In the artwork, Innovatio is dressed in classic flapper fashion, symbolizing the bold energy and newfound freedom of the era. She holds a train ticket, representing opportunity and forward movement, while standing next to a locomotive inspired by the historic FEC Engine No. 153.
Surrounding her are key elements from Florida’s natural landscape and architectural heritage—including dolphins, pelicans, and arched bridges echoing the iconic style of the Overseas Railroad.
