Gold Libertad History
Gold Libertads were first struck in 1 oz gold in 1981 in a Brilliant Uncirculated finish. The early designs (including 1981 and 1991–1994) draw inspiration from Mexico’s historic Centenario coin, originally issued to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Mexico’s independence from Spain.

In 2000, the design was updated to include a ring of historical coats of arms surrounding the modern Mexican National Shield. Known for their low mintages compared to other bullion coins, Gold Libertads—especially backdated issues—can be difficult to find, adding further collectible appeal.
