History of the American Silver Eagle Program
The American Silver Eagle program was authorized by the Liberty Coin Act of 1985, signed into law by President Ronald Reagan. The Act was intended to reduce excess silver held in the U.S. Defense National Stockpile by converting it into investment-grade bullion coins.

After years of debate and market concerns surrounding silver prices, the program officially launched on November 24, 1986. Since then, the American Silver Eagle has become the world’s most popular silver bullion coin, prized for its purity, government backing, and iconic design.
